Fern-leaved Phacelia, Purple Phacelia (Phacelia bipinnatifida)


Fern-leaved Phacelia is also known as Purple Phacelia, Scorpion Weed.

Plant Type: This is a herbaceous plant, it is a biennial which can reach 60cm in height (24inches). It is generally erect.


Leaves: The leaves are alternate . They are lobed or divided or twice divided pinnately.

Flowers: The flowers have 5 Regular Parts. They are light blue. Blooms first appear in mid spring and continue into late spring. The buds are in a coiled cluster that straightens as the flowers open.

Habitat: Rocky areas and rich woods.

Range: From the midwest south.

Photographic Location: A designated state natural area in Middle TN.
These plants are favored by bees, and their flowers yield a flavorful honey.
