Southern Blackberry (Rubus argutus)

Smooth canes ascending 3-6' tall with straight, spreading prickles. 

Leaves are alternate, compound with 3-5 toothed, lanceolate leaflets, 2-5" long.

Flowers are white, 1" wide, 5 petals are longer than sepals, borne in a loose, raceme-like cyme. 

Bloom time: May-June. 

The fruits are harvested for eating, baking, and preserving into jams and jellies. The seeds are spread by birds and other animals.
